Jurisdictions all around the country hold Family Reunification Day celebrations during the month to recognize and raise awareness of the importance of family reunification to children in foster care. Santa Clara honored five exceptional families who overcame significant challenges to reunify safely and successfully. Each family was nominated by their attorney or social worker and was selected by the committee putting on the event. Each family received a plaque signed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, and the children of the families received a basket of toys and gift cards donated by Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.

Santa Clara also honors one dedicated community partner every year for their vital contributions to the reunification and strengthening of our dependency court families. This year, that person was Anna Sapp, the Dependency Wellness Court Coordinator.

Family Reunification Day in Santa Clara County is a collaboration among many justice partners, including the County of Santa Clara Superior Court, Dependency Advocacy Center (DAC), Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY) at the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley, the Office of the County Counsel, Office of the County Counsel Child Dependency Unit, Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, and the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS).
